July 4th
This is a big day for pics and snapshots! The colors, the smiles, the food, the fireworks and the patriotism. Who wouldn't want to fill your social media feeds with all the action?!
I'll give you some tips on capturing the best photos you possibly can!
Here are six tips to get you started!
Simplicity
Having a clean and simple background is soothing to the eye and helps to draw the attention where it's intended. Wearing clothes without large distracting brands, logos or wording will also help to create a timeless portrait
Props
Props can really make a photo, and you don't have to spend a ton to get them. Try looking in your local Dollar Store for fun sunglasses, mini flags, bubbles, frozen treats, watermelon, bubble gum, etc.... You get the idea. Just don't forget to peel those labels off to keep that clean and simple look.
Safety
Always be aware of your surroundings, especially with children in the mix. Summertime usually means water, fireworks, bonfires, sun exposure and heat. Let's keep hydrated and safe, and don't forget to re-apply the sunscreen. Nothing is more cringy than looking back on photos and seeing the sunburn of the season.
Get in the Motion
Candids are always a great way to get real smiles. To up your candid game, give your subjects an activity! For littles, try a watermelon seed spitting contest, a tie-dye party, glow-stick dance-off, water fight. It doesn't have to be elaborate, just fun!
Backlit
Having the sun at your subject's back will keep eyes from getting squinty. Just be aware that your backgrounds could get blown-out easily. Try choosing a location with plenty of shade instead of open sunlight.
It's a Feeling
Above all, the emotion of the photograph is what will make it spectacular. Seeing that genuine smile or look of wonder will trump any prop, background or lighting situation you could possibly some up with.
