Are you bringing your photography session to your house?

In-home sessions can be more stressful than outdoor sessions, but don't let it scare you off. I'll give you a few tips I've picked up or noticed along the way in my career as an Illinois Photographer, while also showing off some of Emily and Aaron's In-home maternity session images.

These are my thoughts:

I. Clean any reflective surfaces

Mirrors, windows, countertops and maybe even flooring. If it's reflective, it will show fingerprints, dirt, smudges and anything else that you can think of. And yes, it shows up quite noticeably in your pictures and can be very hard, if not impossible, to remove.

II. Clear the clutter

I always advise my clients to remove anything extra from the rooms we'll be for sure using, and even the ones we didn't discuss. Photographers are walking all around you during a session, and it makes it difficult if I move to a different angle but can't take the shot because your xbox is in the background, or a pile of shoes or whatnot.

III. Natural light matters

You could have the best LED lights that money can buy, but I'm still going for that big window spilling in all the glorious natural light. Sorry, not Sorry! Window light is so much softer and more flattering. If you have windows in your home, be sure that the glass is clean and the space around it (indoors & out) is clean and clutter free.

Use What You've Got

You'd be surprised at how creative we can get with the things you already own. Want a white background image? No problem, I'll put you in front of a window! Craving more creative images? We can use a mirror. The possibilities are endless.
